Fiona of Cakes by Fiona Barnett has gained a reputation as one of the most innovative, original and creative designers of couture wedding and celebration cakes in North East Scotland.
As with many cake makers who venture into the world of celebration cakes, Fiona initially started cake decorating as a hobby, with family and friends being the first beneficiaries. Fiona’s talent, has developed through the years, but still retains its unique style, for which she has won several national awards. Her cakes can regularly be seen in a variety of wedding publications, and the dedicated wedding cake magazine Wedding Cakes – A Design Source.
Your event is special and deserves a special cake, which is why Fiona believes in individual attention, and will be the only person dealing with the orders, from the initial consultation, to the set up at the venue. Although Fiona gets many requests to teach cake decorating, it is not something currently being considered, due to wanting to focus on her core work and what she does best - make you the perfect cake.
If you are looking for an original, bespoke design where quality and attention to detail is second to none, then you have found your perfect cake designer. Based in the market town of Ellon, just a few miles north of Aberdeen, let Cakes by Fiona Barnett make your dream cake become reality.
A good cake designer should be able to create the cake of your dreams, and Cakes by Fiona Barnett will provide you with a delicious, and stunning bespoke cake that will make your day truly memorable. All the cakes are hand-baked by Fiona, and can be made in most shapes or sizes, with a variety of flavours and fillings. In certain circumstances it may be possible to modify the recipes to suit special dietary requirements, but unfortunately the cakes will not be nut allergy safe, as they are made in an environment where nuts are used. Whatever your occasion, weddings, birthdays or corporate events let Cakes by Fiona Barnett make your celebration unique and special.
All the cakes featured on this website have been made by Fiona, and represent just a small part of our extensive portfolio.
Flowers and accessories
We do not recommend fresh flowers are used on our cakes, as the flowers may have been treated with pesticides or herbicides, but if you really want fresh flowers, your florist will need to supply them. We can coordinate the florist regarding the specific requirements and can decorate the cake with the flowers on site. Please note some flowers are not suitable for use as a cake decoration as they are toxic. Ask your florist for details. Brooches, ribbons, diamantes and beads, used to decorate some cakes are not edible and must be removed before serving. These accessories will only be used on the understanding that their use is at your request and Cakes by Fiona Barnett accepts no responsibility for any issues that may arise as the result of their use.
Opening times are currently by appointment only, but arrangements can be made for evening and weekend consultations.
Demand for by Fiona's cakes can be high, especially during the summer months; it is therefore advisable to reserve the date early to ensure that we have the availability. Wedding cakes are often ordered up to a year in advance, with 4 months being the minimum notice for fruit cake orders, allowing the cake time to mature. It is possible to make sponge or chocolate sponge wedding or celebration cakes in less time, but the dates required may not be available. We will always try our best to accommodate a last minute order, but cannot guarantee the required date slot. In all cases feel free to call and discuss.
A non-refundable/non-transferable deposit of £50 for wedding cakes and £25 for other cakes is taken at the time of order. If the cake is to be delivered, final payment should be made no later than 21 days before delivery. If the cake is to be collected, cash payment can be made on the day.
Stands and Separators
There is a range of stands and separators that are available for hire. The stands can be hired for £10, and separators for £5, but an additional deposit is required to cover the cost of damage or loss to the stand / separator. The deposit is returned in full on the safe return of the stand/ separator. The stands must be returned by the date agreed or the deposit will be forfeited.
Setup and delivery
Usually we prefer to deliver and setup our wedding cakes. This allows us to make and last minute adjustments that may be required. In some instances a small delivery fee may be charged. If you would prefer the cake to be collected, arrangements for a suitable day and time can be made.
Unfortunately it is not possible to give prices for our cakes without knowing your requirements. All cakes are custom made to order, and prices will vary according to your design. However as a rough guide to work from, you should be looking at a price between £2.50 - £6 per serving, depending on the complexity of the design. To determine the price of a cake, a consultation would be arranged, and the finer points of design, colours and cake type and sizes would be discussed. Once I have this information I can provide a quote for the cake.
Portion GuideThis is for guidance only, but should give you an idea of the size of cakes required. Final number portions will be determined by the accuracy use to cut the cake.
